Unit Overview
This unit explores the lives, journeys, and lasting impact of famous male and female explorers from the Age of Exploration to modern times. Students will learn about early European adventurers like Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, and Ferdinand Magellan, who crossed oceans to find new trade routes and lands. They will also meet remarkable female explorers like Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir, Sacagawea, and Amelia Earhart, who broke gender barriers and redefined what it means to be an explorer.
Through simplified texts, videos, discussions, and interactive activities, students will discover the motivations, challenges, and achievements of each explorer. The unit highlights the differences and similarities between male and female exploration, the historical settings of their journeys, and how these individuals shaped our understanding of the world. Students will practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while gaining insight into the spirit of exploration and human courage across time.
Unit Objectives
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
